Professional engineer I

About the Role

We're looking for a recently licensed structural engineer ready to take on more ownership and grow into a well-rounded project engineer. As a PE I at Lysaght & Associates, you'll work alongside senior staff on a variety of project types while also running smaller projects on your own. It's a role that gives you real responsibility from day one — not just support work — with mentorship and a clear path forward built in.

What You'll Do

  • Perform structural analysis and design across a range of materials and systems — steel, concrete, wood, and masonry

  • Lead schematic and conceptual design on assigned projects, selecting efficient structural systems based on experience and project needs

  • Prepare and review structural calculation packages, technical reports, and project documentation

  • Guide the BIM team in developing models and drawing sets that meet structural requirements

  • Coordinate drawings and models internally with your own designs and externally across the broader project team

  • Represent the structural discipline in project meetings with clients, architects, and consultants

  • Lead construction administration on assigned projects — RFIs, shop drawings, submittals

  • Conduct field evaluations and lead site investigations on smaller projects, including documenting existing conditions and coordinating with contractors

  • Mentor engineering interns and support their development on project work

What We're Looking For

  • Active PE license

  • 4+ years of overall structural engineering experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

  • Strong working knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, NDS, TMS, and their practical application

  • Proficiency in structural analysis software (RISA or similar)

  • Ability to manage your own work and support staff with minimal supervision

  • Clear, confident communicator with clients, consultants, and internal team members

  • Someone who takes ownership and follows through — no hand-holding required

What We Offer

  • Quarterly performance bonuses tied to clear, transparent KPIs

  • Clear advancement path toward PE II position

  • Company-sponsored professional development — conferences, licensing support, training

  • Full benefits package — health insurance, medical expense reimbursement plan (MERP), 401(k) with company match, gym stipend, phone stipend, and PTO

  • A collaborative team that takes the work seriously without taking itself too seriously
