Edenton Cotton Mill
This mill was constructed in 1900 and had been closed for many years. Fortunately, the building had been maintained and the roof didn’t leak, so the major structural components – heavy timber decking, beams and columns – were in good condition. One corner of the building had significant settlement cracks and past repairs had not been effective, so helical piers were added to support the corner. The mill was being converted into condominiums so our scope included repairs to deteriorated wood framing and masonry openings, adding a loft above the first floor, and miscellaneous improvements outside the building.
