“Main Terrain” Chattanooga Art Trusses
Main Terrain is located at the termination point of long abandoned rail lines. A 1.72 acre brownsfield tract has been transformed into a distinctive urban art and fitness park. Underlying the idea for the park is the act of bridging: bridging the physical space between the convention center and the burdgeoning renovated “main street”; bridging art, urban design, and exercise; and bridging various communities which surround the park. Additionally, it is the goal of the art to encourage people to move through the park, to use the track, to engage the exercise stations and physically interact with the sculpture by turning its wheel. Finally, the park serves as a sophisticated storm water retention and re-use area.
